Role: Motion Designer and Art Director
Spectrum Bay News 9
The NHL Playoffs brought a lot of excitement to Tampa Bay in 2015 and beyond. 2015 was really the start to a long run that would eventually could be considered a dynasty of a team. Each and every season the Tampa Bay Lightning would continue making the Playoffs with very talented teams.
In 2015, Bay News 9 needed an exciting open animation that would air a lot over several months of deep Playoff runs that the Lightning would make. This open animation would continue to get utilized for many years there after, so it really needed to have a visual impact that would not feel dated after a few seasons.
With my passion for hockey, I was very excited to not only tackle this project but also with a clean canvas, open to my interpretation of how this should look.
I started by building a 3D replication of the Stanley Cup, which would be the focal point of the piece and ultimately the prize all hockey fans are focused on throughout the Playoffs. Combined with unique titling that is enhanced with an ice and snow effect, the title bursts through the broken ice within the hockey arena and is electrified by a lightning jolt.
The opener was built entirely in Cinema 4D and After Effects and was a pleasure to work on! Thanks for viewing.
